Running for office is right for you, but is it right for your family?

Many people have their hearts set on running for office and many would be great elected officials.  However, we must always ask if this lifestyle is right for our family.  Elected positions can offer little to no income.  How will you manage a decrease in pay if you are forced to give up your main job?  Many positions entail long hours, and possibly, long travel periods.  How will your family adjust to your possible erratic schedule or decrease in family time?

Winning an elected seat is an honor, but there are sacrifices.  Is the timing right?  Should you wait until your children get older?  Should you be more financially stable before you run?  There are many factors to consider if the timing is not just right for you, but right for your family as well.
